Students for a New American Politics PAC (SNAP PAC) is pleased to announce its endorsement of Representative Mike Honda for California’s 17th district. SNAP will send two trained fellows– selected from a competitive nationwide pool of applicants– to work on Honda’s campaign during the summer.

As Vice Chair of the Progressive Caucus, Mike Honda has demonstrated his commitment to ensuring opportunity for every American. The principal author of the “Budget for All,” he proposed investing $2.9 trillion in job creation; ending tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans; abolishing government subsidies for oil, gas, and coal companies; and creating a publicly funded federal election system.

“As a former public school teacher and principal, it means a lot to me to have the support of SNAP PAC. By funding two student organizers for the campaign, SNAP PAC will make sure young students have a chance to learn how progressive campaigns work. I can’t wait for our fellows to get started on the ground here,” said Rep. Honda.

Throughout his 13 years in Congress, Honda has remained a champion of the middle class, pushing legislation to create well-paying jobs, and insisting on responsible deficit cuts that do not put our nation’s safety net on the chopping block.

Congressman Honda faces a challenge this cycle from a well-funded Democrat fueled by max-out contributions from far-right conservatives like billionaire Peter Thiel, who has given millions to elect Senator Ted Cruz, and hedge fund executive Marc Leder, who hosted the fundraiser where Mitt Romney made his 47% comments.

“We’re very excited to use our resources to back a candidate whose record and beliefs epitomize progressivism,” said SNAP PAC co-executive director Zac Krislov. “We know our Fellows will have an amazing experience organizing on Honda’s grassroots campaign.”
