SNAP PAC Endorses Val Demings

Students for a New American Politics PAC, SNAP PAC, is proud to endorse Val Demings for Florida’s 10th Congressional seat. SNAP has placed two trained fellows, selected from a competitive nationwide pool of applicants, to work as field organizers on Demings’ campaign this summer.

Chief Demings has spent her life devoted to making a difference for others. Chief Demings rose from humble beginnings to live the American Dream. She started her career in public service as a social worker, then later joined the Orlando Police Department. After more than two decades of service, Demings was appointed the first woman to serve as Orlando Chief of Police. In this position, she led successful efforts to address violent crime in the city. During her tenure as chief, violent crime decreased by more than 40 percent, the most significant decrease in the city’s history.

SNAP will place two trained fellows - selected from a competitive nationwide pool of applicants - to work as field organizers on Steele’s campaign this summer.

Steele is a champion of progressive values and a dedicated, proven leader. She was elected in 2012 to the Arizona State House of Representatives, and has served as the Ranking Democrat on the Transportation Committee, and as a member of the Health, Energy and Environment committees. In her two terms in the legislature, she has worked to increase economic opportunity, strengthen public education, and defend a woman’s right to choose. She co-founded the Coalition to Protect Women’s Reproductive Rights, bringing together dozens of allies across the state to fight for women’s health care.

SNAP will place two trained fellows - selected from a competitive nationwide pool of applicants - to work as field organizers on Gregory’s campaign this summer.

DuWayne Gregory has devoted his life to serving his country. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduating from college. His time in the Army taught him the importance of determined leadership and cooperation. After leaving the Army, Gregory returned to Long Island and became the Citizens’ Advocate for the Town of Babylon and won a seat in the Suffolk County Legislature. In 2014, he was elected Presiding Officer of the Legislature, making him the first African-American in the county’s history to hold the position. In the legislature, Gregory has tackled important issues, such as investing in innovative, high-tech jobs, helping to lead Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, and passing balanced budgets without raising property taxes.

SNAP will place two trained fellows - selected from a competitive nationwide pool of applicants - to work as field organizers on Santarsiero’s campaign this summer.

 

Santarsiero left his job at a prominent law firm and became a high school teacher in order to give back to young people. Santarsiero won a strong victory in a highly contested Pennsylvania House seat in 2008. In his four terms as a state representative, Santarsiero has fought for clean air and water, good paying jobs for working families, and equal rights for all Americans. He has advocated for government reform by repeatedly turning down legislative perks and pushing for campaign finance reform, in addition to proposing “No Budget, No Pay” legislation.

Emily Cain has a strong record of principled leadership. As a legislator in the Maine House of Representative and State Senate, she worked to grow Maine’s economy. As the youngest woman to become Maine House Minority Leader, she has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights. Cain’s legislative service highlights her tireless and effective advocacy for small businesses, students, victims of domestic violence, and working families.

Rep. Shea-Porter has a record of fighting for progressive change. Over her seven years in Congress, as a member of the Natural Resources Committee, Rep. Shea-Porter pushed to strengthen the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts, repeal subsidies for big oil, and ardently opposed the Keystone XL Pipeline.
