Shenna Bellows: ME-SEN

Shenna Bellows (ME-SEN)

Students for a New American Politics PAC (SNAP PAC) is excited to announce its endorsement of Shenna Bellows of Maine for U.S. Senate. Bellows served as the former director of the Maine ACLU. SNAP will send two trained organizing Fellows to work on her campaign throughout the summer.

Bellows has been endorsed by EMILY’S List and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. She was a founding member of the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, working to stop state level anti-immigrant legislation and advocating for comprehensive federal reform. She also served as the co-chair of the Protect Maine Votes Coalition, helping to pass a statewide referendum that restored same day voter registration. She was a leading force in the referendum that established marriage equality in Maine in 2012, and has advocated for pay equity as a member of the Coalition for Maine Women. Bellows’ commitment to progressive values extends to fundraising: her campaign has been fueled by small dollar donations from residents across Maine.

“I am honored to be endorsed by SNAP and to have the support of two of their full-time student fellows this summer.  Our campaign is truly fueled by the grassroots, and these fellows will provide invaluable organizing skills and energy to our campaign,” Bellows said. “The SNAP endorsement is an investment in the power of grassroots campaigning, and we are looking forward to working closely with them on this race.”

Bellows is committed to advancing legislation that will restore citizens’ civil liberties–repealing the Patriot Act and implementing effective oversight of the NSA. She will work to ensure all Americans can earn a fair share. She supports closing corporate tax loopholes and eliminating subsidies that only benefit our nation’s wealthiest corporations.

“We’re very excited for our Fellows to work on this campaign,” said Zac Krislov, SNAP co-executive director. “Bellows truly values grassroots organizing and connecting with voters, and is committed to advancing the progressive cause.”
