SNAP will place two trained fellows - selected from a competitive nationwide pool of applicants - to work as field organizers on Santarsiero’s campaign this summer.

Santarsiero left his job at a prominent law firm and became a high school teacher in order to give back to young people. Santarsiero won a strong victory in a highly contested Pennsylvania House seat in 2008. In his four terms as a state representative, Santarsiero has fought for clean air and water, good paying jobs for working families, and equal rights for all Americans. He has advocated for government reform by repeatedly turning down legislative perks and pushing for campaign finance reform, in addition to proposing “No Budget, No Pay” legislation.

"As a father and a former teacher, I know that our community's and country's future lies with our young people," said Steve Santarsiero. "I'm proud to have the endorsement of SNAP PAC and in Congress I look forward to fighting for college affordability and ensuring the next generation has the same opportunity to succeed as generations before."

Santarsiero will focus on strengthening and improving access to education opportunity while in Congress. He believes that investing in a strong and accessible education system today will open the door of opportunity for all students in the future. Santarsiero will continue to stand up for the rights of all, regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. In order to address climate change, Santarsiero will push for Congress to invest in renewable energy sources and create new, innovative green jobs. Santarsiero is a strong progressive leader who will continue to do everything he can to bring reform and accountability to Congress.

“Steve Santarsiero represents everything we look for in a candidate - he is dedicated to economic and social equity and has a proven record of fighting for everyday Americans,” said SNAP PAC executive director Mila Rostain. “We are thrilled to be working with the campaign and are confident that our fellows will have a meaningful organizing experience.”
